about

The three tracks were taken from 7 recorded over a w/e in Wales
All live with no overdubs beyond a 2nd Cello and some shouting!

Chas Dickie formed Pool of Sound, in Oxfordshire after the 1978 breakup of Van der Graaf Generator in which he had played cello and keyboards since1977.

Marc, David and Hamish were all living in Oxfordshire, and so the band met and went on to rehearse in Chipping Warden and then East Hendred Village Hall.

Pool of Sound was conceived as a group which could encompass many genres and aspects of music.

Between 1978 and 1980 they played Glastonbury, Fairport Convention’s Cropredy Festival, Festival of Mind, Body, and Spirit at London’s Olympia, Moles Club Bath, and numerous venues in the Oxford Area, including the very first gig which featured Graham Smith (Violin) and David Jackson (saxes), and was held in the church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Chipping Warden, with “rock lighting” imported from The Rainbow in Finsbury Park.

Chas continued Pool of Sound as a String Quartet
